Welcome to Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer

Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry

(i)The MDS University was established on 1st August 1987 and the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry saw its inception on 19th April 1994 with Dr. Rita Mehra, present Head of Department as its Founder Member and First Lady Faculty of MDS University Ajmer. With the aim and vision of the University to begin with job-oriented courses, the first Post-Graduate Programme offered by the Department was of M.Sc. Applied Chemistry. Thereafter in 2000, P.G. Programme in M.Sc. Chemistry was commenced. Both the course, earlier run in Annual Scheme are presentrly run in Semester Scheme of Examination having four semesters in each. The contents of the courses are based on theoretical and practical aspects in the subject and equip the students with apt knowledge of the subject w.r.t. NET, SET and other competitive examinations as well as for acquiring jobs in the industries. The research thrust areas of the Department at present are Biomonitoring of Metals and Acoustic Studies of Chemical and Biochemical Systems. The published research work in these fields has won international recognition. It is further hoped that the world over the Department might become known as an active Centre for Metal Biomonitoring and Occupational Hazard Assessment researches.
