From Inception Till Today Advent of Academic Staff College: The Academic Staff College as it is
presently known has its roots of inception under the name and style of Human
Resource Development Centre (HRDC) from 1995 to 1999. During the said period
eleven (11) Refresher Courses were organized. The advent of the
twentieth century saw the Academic Staff College standing on its feet in 2000
with a feast of Refresher Courses in Chemistry, History, Botany, Home
Science, Political Science, Economics & Orientation Programmes to
its credit. In addition, other courses as and when directed by the UGC viz.
Special Summer School, Special Winter School, Academic Administrators
Workshop and Interactive Programme are organized from time to time. Adolescence
of Academic Staff College: The trend
continued in the foregoing years i.e. 2001 onwards always putting its strong
holds in the positive direction i.e. in quality and productivity of the
courses in the years to follow. In all , from the point of view of those who
benefited out of the Refresher Courses organized by the UGC – ASC
MDSU Ajmer , the number is as good as 1502 , out of which those who benefited
during the last five years was 692. Maturing
of Academic Staff College: The UGC grants released were spent
judiciously for the purpose which include: Establishment of Computer Lab: In order to excel in the field of
computer owing to the increasing use of computers in practical education the
ASC purchased 25 computers with two printers and other peripherals and immediately
after establishment of lab the ASC took in its ambit , the hidden aspirations
of all participating of Refresher / Orientation Courses aiming for computer
education. It was inaugurated on 18th July 2007 and the process of computer
training started with home in July 2007 i.e. initiating by providing computer
education to the officials of academic and administrative sections of the MDS
University Ajmer, desirous and needy of elementary knowledge of computers,
under a training programme entitled Karmyogi Prashikshan Karyakram at ASC.
The programme provided for educating the officials wherein at least one hour
twenty-five officials everyday were taught for a week in order to entail the
computer basics in every official. Further phases included the new advances
in the field and spreading computer literacy in participants of Refresher
Courses and Orientation Programme. Edusat SIT FACILITY: With a view to link the University ASC as
a hub and in line with the UGC guidelines for the purpose, EDUSAT
SIT facility viz. Satellite Interactive Terminal has been provided. EDUSAT
facility provided to Academic Staff College of MDS University has opened the
frontiers of education to the students and teachers through on line classroom
(via channel of CEC) provided on Ku Band. Presently the EDUSAT is being
utilized for providing online lecture facility to the students and teachers
as provided by the consortium for education communication of the UGC. Subsequent to reconfiguration of
Satellite Interactive Channels under CEC-UGC Network from April 2008, the
facility has been made accessible to all teaching departments in the campus
with wide circulation to all concerned in EDUSAT SIT Facility Room (Room No.
112-A, B) in Valmiki Bhawan in view of paucity of space at ASC . At present, interaction between audience
and resource person is not direct, but the facility for online communication
with the resource persons will be provided shortly enabling queries of
scholars and teachers to be resolved immediately by direct one to one
conversion. ORGANIZATION
OF REFRESHER COURSES / ORIENTATION PROGRAMMES: Another phase concepted the Orientation
and Refresher courses which are conducted through Participatory Management
which include- auditing the programme report, chairing of sessions,
organizing visits and chalking down academic & presentation sessions . While the Refresher courses aimed at
various recent changes/ advances been made in the subject matter, courses in
environmental studies, courses on educational management have been
significant being multi-disciplinary. INNOVATIVE COURSES
AT UGC - ASC, M. D. S. University, Ajmer: The Refresher Course in Educational
Management in session 2007-08 has been an innovative course, conducted for
the first time by our ASC to cater to the needs of academicians turning
administrators in the later part of their professional carrier. Comprehensive
information was provided by relevant resource persons regarding
administrative and financial matters, service rules, extra-curricular
activities, dealing with unions and associations, sports activities etc. that
form an essential part of the College administration. In the session 2008-09, Special Summer
School-2008 and Special Winter School 2008-09 were successfully organized
from 21.8.08 to 8.9.08 and 8.2.09 to 28.2.09. In addition, a special Ph.D
Interactive Programme entitled Workshop on Interactive Programme on Research
2009 is being organized from 12.3.09 to 31.3.09 in which the scholar
participants would interact with the teacher resource persons on various
aspects of research. TEACHING
METHODOLOGY: One word will not suffice for teaching
methodology which include lecture cum discussions with the use of aids viz.
LCD Projector, OHP, Blackboard etc. and organizing field visits for infusing practical
knowledge among the participants and holding syllabi discussion session and
interactive sessions for developing communication skills and improving the
course content to be taught. EVALUATION
OF PARTICIPANTS: The evaluation and grading is done by
assessment of participants through multiple choice objective tests, review
presentations, basic attitude, punctuality, interaction with peers and
Resource persons, Group discussion and overall performance. GUEST
HOUSE: We have a University Guest House with
facility for Boarding & Lodging, Medical aid in emergency and basic
essential amenities. Proposal for construction of ASC Guest House is
underway. UGC has sanctioned Rs. 75 lakhs for the ASC Guest House of which Rs.40
lakhs have been received and the site has been identified for ASC Guest
House. Construction is to commence very shortly. The Library of Academic Staff College is
in process of establishment in which books/documents for the benefit of
refresher course and orientation programme participants will be made
available. |
